The Gatekeepers Cottage located at the Two Mile Well on Chapman Road; Beresford is a well-proportioned 3-bedroom sandstone structure. The cottage is an excellent example of the original four railway cottages built circa 1886 to house railway crossing Gatekeepers as a part of the Geraldton-Walkway section of the Northern Rail link.
This culturally significant heritage building is valued by the local community and reflects moderate to high authenticity status. With conservation work well underway, a long list of remedial restoration construction has already been completed. The next phase of restoration to conserve, protect and enhance this State Heritage listed cottage is now much more palatable for the discerning buyer.
The Gatekeepers Cottage exhibits beautiful local White Peak sandstone walls, wandoo floorboards, new cedar windows and doors and a new extension to the Northern aspect of the home to house a bathroom, laundry, and kitchen. The restoration project is being carefully managed with love and respect by the current owner, Heritage Consultant and Nelson Building Co to ensure retention of the original integrity of this magnificent building.
Zoned Urban Development, The Gatekeepers Cottage is situated on 1331m2 of exemplary land with uninterrupted ocean views across Champion Bay. West of the cottage is the railway swing cut (public open space) and within walking distance are St Lawrence's and Bluff Point Primary Schools, Beresford Foreshore precinct, St Georges beach and the Broadwater Hotel. The Gatekeepers Cottage provides opportunity for a connected and healthy lifestyle, with a capacity to construct a contemporary addition or outbuilding to increase the overall building footprint.
Nelson Building Company have been heavily involved in the restoration process. Here is a link to the website, outlining the fascinating history of The Gatekeepers Cottage.
