In 1859 it was purchased by a Scottish gentleman who had done well in the diggings, he wanted to build a small Castle like the ones in his Highlands Homeland, and ended up with a fine 2 story Gentleman's Residence using the same bluestones that we're being used to build the Town Hall and post office.
For many years it was the finest home in this part of the town.
