Where is it? Russell Island, and it is situated perfectly with a 20 minute ferry ride to Redland Bay, 60mins by car to the Gold Coast, 45 mins to Brisbane, 90mins to the Sunshine Coast. Ferry's leave approximately every half hour.
This block has magnificent views across the Canaipa Passage looking at North Stradbroke Island, a stone's throw away. It was cleared in 2016, but now has regrowth. The regrowth are saplings and easily and cheaply removed. When you look at land on the islands one of the more initial expensive outlays are the removal of huge trees.
2000m2 is a rare find for the islands (Southern Moreton Bay Islands). Waterfronts will become rarer as time goes by as they are obviously in limited supply. This 2000m2 waterfront block is rare indeed as most island blocks average 600m2 on the islands. This one is nearly four times the size.
There is a neighbour to the left of the block looking out over the water, and across the road are another two houses. Leichhardt Tce is a cul-de-sac which means no annoying traffic. The road out the front is a sealed road. Rubbish is collected once per week. Water connection and an electrical pole are available to connect to right at the front of the property.
The islands boast numerous builders and tradies who are familiar with building on the islands. Or become an owner builder yourself as many do and supervise the various trades.
How about hop in your tinny and zoom down to the Gold Coast through the beautiful waterways (never have to be on open ocean, always protected). A 12foot tinny and a 18hp motor can be at Southport beaches in 60mins. Or drop into famous Tipplers on South Stradbroke Island on the way, 45 mins, or pop in for lunch to Harrigan's Irish Pub at Jacob's Well only 40 mins away. There is also a the lovely cafe at Horizon Shores. Trip to the prawn trawlers at Surfers Paradise or Runaway Bay when they bring in their fresh catches or head north to Amity Point or Dunwich on North Stradbroke Island. Maybe just a day fishing or collecting crabs. Having water craft on the islands provides great pleasure.
While Russell boasts a Supa IGA and all other facilities (you never have to leave the island) you can still do something different and pull into Runaway Bay Shopping Centre in your boat, tie up to the pontoons provided for shoppers coming by boat, and through the glass doors and have all the major shops you may want.
The islands are a wonderful place to retire with NBN and mobile services available. Ferries and vehicular barges travelling regularly seven days a week or if you simply want to laze at home order Woolworths online that delivers to your doorstep seven days a week.
If you want to live here then have the mindset of island living. There are numerous retirees who have a caravan or large boat and spend parts of the year travelling around.
Each island of islanders on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands has its own unique characteristics. Russell is a mixture of workers, families, and retirees. Young families are also starting to flock to the Islands as homes are affordable and we have recently $4million upgrade to the Primary School. Secondary students can access free ferry transport to Redland Bay Terminal where buses provide transport to and from school.
There are plenty of activities to do. Connect with the local community centre or chase up groups and information on Facebook community pages.
The islanders live here because they love the rural aspect, the birdlife, the quiet and that we are soooo close to the mainland and all the facilities available from the Gold Coast, Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast.
